That proposal is total insanity!! I can see it being arbitrarily being used to boast the stability of struggling franchises like Florida or Phoenix by giving them the next Crosby or Stamkos, but if an equally bad team was in a big market like Philadelphia or Toronto, they would not garner such generosity.

So in other words Phoenix will become the new Oilers?

Not happening, other owners won't buy into that. Bettman works for the owners!

Happens now in the NBA. They just disguise it as a "lottery" draft.

What will happen is the C$ will tank again, and Edmonton will claim financial distress and get yet another first overall pick.

It's inevitable.

Great idea. In fact, let Bettman assign all picks based on financial stability.

Ridiculous some big market teams acctually build through the draft rather then just signing every high end free agent.

The test of Tambellini will be how those second rounders work out.

A chimp could pick the first rounders

That's a good idea, but a better idea would be to assign all picks based upon proximity to the CN Tower.

shouldnt the test be how he surrounds these draft picks? which, up until this point, has been with piles of poop?

Funny, because we've been hearing that he should've taken Seguin, Larsson and Murray for months now.

You guys could have had a shot at them if your GM had a clue.

Who's your source exactly Ek? I have massive doubts that's actually in the proposal. Its something you would come up with.

This guy really is the greasiest, most corruped and foul man to ever embark into hockey. What a (franking) dirt bag. The other teams of the NHL have no interest in paying for teams to be in non-hockey markets, just so Betman can go a little longer without admitting how stupid such a philosophy is.. Move those teams into money makers...

This could be the single-worst idea I've ever (frank)ing heard, and that's saying something considering the NHL's immense sample size.
